Director

I am delighted to offer this message as the Director of the University Research Council. I believe that this role offers an exceptional opportunity to make a lasting difference to the University's pursuit of excellence in research; to develop and implement strategies and policies to deliver quality research outputs, outcomes, and impacts; and lead and support bidding and winning research grants.

I believe that our research will support the country's economic, environmental, cultural, and social development and drive us towards one of the world leaders in research.

In recent years, the University has grown significantly in achievement and continues to improve our standing in league tables, particularly in the Times Higher Education World University ranking.

While recognizing research is an important component for sustaining our place in these league tables, I will work towards enhancing the multidisciplinary research, as I believe it is our strength within the University.

University Research Council (URC) . and Peradeniya University Research and Grant Office (PURGO)

The University Research Council (URC) and the Peradeniya University Research and Grant Office (PURGO) collaboratively manage the university’s research portfolio, with URC driving multidisciplinary research and supporting researchers in securing grants, while PURGO oversees the comprehensive grant management process across pre-award, in-award, and post-award stages. PURGO’s mission is to enhance the strength and diversity of research activities by fostering collaborative, cross-faculty, and multidisciplinary initiatives, cultivating a supportive environment conducive to impactful research, and promoting a global and local research presence through strategic publicity and engagement. By building robust relationships with national and international funders, PURGO nurtures a positive research culture, facilitates equipment sharing and staff training, and ensures effective communication of research-related updates through a monthly bulletin and a dynamic social media presence, thereby strengthening the university’s position as a leading hub for innovative scholarship.
